Mantel Model 1915
The Model 1915 MANTEL
In 1915 the Prussian Army introduced a standardized new greatcoat to match that of the new 1915 BLUSE. As with the M1915 BLUSE, the Bavarian Army changed to a modified version of the MANTEL in 1916. On the Bavarian model, the collar is the same colour and material as the body itself. The M1915 Mantel had a large collar faced in Roserederen Abzeichentuch (light grey/green badge cloth) and was tailored with a wide front closed by a single row of 6 crown buttons. As with the BLUSE, the M1915 Mantel was cut with French cuffs. The coat was drawn at the back with a belt fastened with a single crown button. |
Rear Details.
The adjustable belt across the back of the Mantel allowed for closer fitting, and closing of the rear pleat/fold down the back of the Mantel. This adjustable back strap was secured by one standardized Feldgrau painted crown button and a metal eye and loop closure.
To each side of the rear belt was a slit to allow the equipment carrying hooks from the tunic inside to protrude and be used. While normally these inner reinforcement pieces were made of leather, this example simply has cloth reinforcement on the inside
